Product details

The GE JKD5000SVSS is a 27-inch double electric wall oven with two 4.3-cu-ft cavities. Its separate ovens provide distinct spaces for meal preparation within one wall-cabinet arrangement, with an upper oven that offers True European Convection.

No Preheat Air Fry, a hidden backlit LCD and a precision temperature-probe function add cooking options and operating controls. Self Clean with an optional Steam Clean choice supports different cleaning tasks. The Air Fry basket is a separately sold accessory, so confirm the actual equipment before planning that cooking method.

The nominal 27-inch size differs from both the appliance's actual width and its required cabinet opening. GE lists a 26.75-inch overall width and a 51.125-inch height with trim. Use the exact installation drawing for the opening, support and hardwired electrical connection, along with space to open the doors and handle cookware.

Buying guide

Plan separate cooking tasks for the two ovens

Think through the meals that make a double oven useful: dishes needing different temperatures, a main course and later baking, or several items whose schedules overlap. The two 4.3-cu-ft cavities should be compared individually with your cookware. Plan convection tasks for the upper oven according to the exact mode instructions rather than assuming the cavities have identical feature lists.

Measure the largest roasting pan or casserole you use and consider the rack arrangement each recipe requires. Independent cooking spaces are most valuable when their size and functions match the way you prepare a meal.

Consider loading height and access

A double wall oven's overall height affects how you reach both cavities. Review the position of the upper door and the loading level of the lower one with the people who normally cook. Include the weight and shape of your bakeware in that discussion. A large capacity is less useful if a heavy dish is difficult to remove at the chosen mounting height.

Check the work surface where dishes will be placed after removal and the route around any island. Before choosing Air Fry or the probe function as a buying reason, confirm the actual required equipment.

Keep the upper and lower cooking plans distinct

For a larger meal, record the desired mode and recipe temperature for each dish before assigning it to an oven. The upper cavity's True European Convection makes its verified feature list different from the lower cavity's. A pan that can fit either 4.3-cu-ft space may still need a different cooking plan depending on the mode selected.

Note the rack position called for by the recipe and the time when the dish will be loaded, checked and removed. Include the landing surface needed for each pan, particularly when two cooks use the appliance. If No Preheat Air Fry or the probe function is part of the plan, confirm the exact guidance and actual equipment before adding the dish to the schedule.

The optional basket should remain a separate purchase or inspection question. A written plan makes the two-oven arrangement useful without assuming that every function, rack arrangement or accessory applies in the same way to both cavities. Retain that plan for meals you repeat, and update it when a new pan or accessory changes the loading arrangement or the guidance for the intended cooking method.

Installation & care

Cleaning Method
Self-cleaning and steam cleaning

Use the exact opening and support requirements

GE's planning sheet gives a cutout width of 25–25.25 inches and height of 49.6875–50.125 inches, with a 23.5-inch minimum installation depth. Have the installer review the complete dimensional drawing and the cabinet support, which must support 400 lb. The oven requires a hardwired junction-box installation and a 30-A breaker at the specified 240/208-V supply. Review these requirements professionally before delivery.

Existing cabinet dimensions alone do not establish that its support and electrical arrangement are suitable.

Leave room for the doors and cleaning tasks

The planning sheet calls for a minimum 23-inch door-opening allowance. Include surrounding drawers, cabinet handles and the nearby work area when reviewing that space. Follow the owner's guide for the self-clean and steam-clean choices, including preparation of racks and accessories. Assess each cavity's soil separately and choose the appropriate care routine rather than assuming both always need the same cycle.

Keep the LCD area and stainless front clean using compatible methods, and organize the cooking equipment so it is available for its intended mode.

Separate the front trim from the opening

Keep the nominal 27-inch class, 26.75-inch overall front width and specified cabinet-opening range as separate entries on the replacement worksheet. They describe different parts of the fit and should not be averaged into one number. For an existing cabinet, have the opening, support and electrical arrangement reviewed before deciding that the visible front of the old oven establishes compatibility.

Include the finished trim or adjacent cabinet doors that might affect how the new appliance sits and opens. The exact drawing should also identify the depth convention used and the required door-opening allowance. Have the installer confirm the hardwired junction-box arrangement and cabinet bracing on the same project record. If cabinet work is needed, retain the approved dimensions and drawing revision for the person doing it.

This is useful when several trades share the project: a quote based on the size class should not accidentally become a fabrication instruction for the final opening.

Worked example: a cutout check has several independent parts

Assume an existing opening measures 25.125 inches wide, 50 inches high and 23.5 inches deep. Those example measurements fall within the listed 25–25.25-inch width and 49.6875–50.125-inch height ranges and meet the stated minimum depth. That comparison still does not establish a complete installation. The cabinet support, hardwired junction-box arrangement, door allowance and other instructions need separate review.

Record the three actual measurements in the same order as the GE drawing so a width or height is not swapped during a quote. Keep the 26.75-inch overall front width and 51.125-inch height with trim outside the cutout column; they describe the visible appliance. If the opening changes after old trim or cabinetry is removed, repeat the comparison before fabrication or mounting proceeds.

This example shows why a successful size check is one part of the replacement decision rather than a reason to skip the remaining model requirements.

Product FAQs

Are both cavities specified as convection ovens?

The verified specifications identify upper-oven convection and no lower convection element. Use the exact mode lists when assigning dishes rather than treating both cavities as having identical convection functions.

Is the Air Fry basket supplied automatically?

GE identifies the basket as a separately sold accessory. Check the correct compatible equipment and the actual unit's contents before planning Air Fry cooking.

Can the oven simply plug into an outlet?

The installation sheet specifies hardwiring into an approved junction box. Have the electrical supply and installation arrangement reviewed by the installer using the exact model instructions.

Is the 27-inch name the cutout width?

No. Overall width is 26.75 inches and the permitted cutout has separate dimensions. Use the full drawing for the finished opening, trim overlap, support and door access.

Can an old oven rack be selected by the 27-inch size class?

Use the exact model's approved rack or accessory reference instead of the nominal appliance width. That size class describes the oven format, not a verified match for every rack from another 27-inch oven. If a previous rack or cooking accessory is being considered, check its identification and suitability with GE's model information before relying on it. Also distinguish ordinary bakeware measurements from the appliance components that support it.

A pan fitting in the cavity does not establish compatibility for an unrelated rack. Keep the confirmed equipment list with JKD5000SVSS and verify which pieces accompany the actual unit, particularly before planning a method that needs a separate accessory. Keep photos and any stamped component identification with the inquiry so the proposed accessory can be identified precisely.
