Installation and care

For indoor, temperature-controlled floors, including above-, on- and below-grade rooms. Install as a floating click-lock floor over an approved clean, dry, flat subfloor. Do not add padding. Acclimation is normally unnecessary; after extreme storage temperatures, allow flooring to reach the conditions specified in the installation guide.

Sweep or vacuum without a beater bar. Damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner. Do not steam clean or use vinegar, wax or abrasive cleaners. Waterproof planks do not replace subfloor moisture control.

Manufacturer limited warranty applies; see the guide for terms, exclusions and installation requirements.

When planning a room with Canyon Collection's Kakadu luxury vinyl plank, use its 9-by-60-inch dimensions to compare the plank scale with your intended layout and furniture placement.

For finish coordination, consider Kakadu's wood-look design, embossed-in-register surface and handcrafted edge profile together rather than choosing by the color name alone. Compare these details with the cabinetry, trim and neighboring floor finishes in your project.

Review overall thickness separately from the wear-layer specification when comparing flooring: Kakadu lists an 8mm total build and a 22 mil wear layer. That total thickness includes a 6.5mm SPC core and a 1.5mm attached IXPE pad, so use the full build—not just the core measurement—for like-for-like thickness comparisons.

Buying guide

Choosing this product

Choosing the Canyon Kakadu plank for your room

Canyon Kakadu combines a 9-by-60-inch plank format with an embossed-in-register surface and handcrafted edge. Evaluate those three features together: plank scale affects the layout you see across the room, surface texture affects its appearance under changing light, and the edge outlines each board. Place a sample beside cabinet doors, wall paint and neighboring flooring, then view it in daylight and under the lights you normally use.

A room photograph is useful for inspiration, but a sample is the better basis for judging how Kakadu works with your own finishes.

Check the collection name as well as the color name when comparing quotations. Zain also lists a Plateau Kakadu with a different core and carton coverage. This item is Canyon Kakadu, identified as SPC with an 8mm total construction and a 22 mil wear layer. Keep the complete product name and SKU on your project notes so that a similarly named floor is not substituted during estimating.

If you are extending an existing installation, compare the actual board profile and label before treating a new carton as a match.

Planning the project

Calculate cartons and check the finished floor height

Use the listed 18.57 square feet per carton for quantity calculations. The 9-by-60-inch designation is the advertised plank format; multiplying those dimensions by five planks is not a replacement for the stated carton coverage. Measure each room and include closets or connected areas that will receive the same floor. Add the cutting allowance agreed with your installer, divide that total by 18.57, and round up to whole cartons.

For example, 300 square feet with an illustrative 10% allowance becomes 330 square feet; 18 cartons provide 334.26 square feet. The allowance is a planning example, not a guarantee that every layout will have the same waste.

For doorway and adjoining-floor planning, use the full 8mm build, including the attached 1.5mm IXPE pad. The 22 mil measurement describes the wear layer and should not be used as the overall floor height. Have the installer check the complete floor assembly at thresholds, appliances and doors before choosing transitions. Record those measurements alongside the room sketch so that the carton estimate and the height plan describe the same project.

Installation and everyday care

Prepare the floating installation and a suitable cleaning routine

The installation guide linked from Canyon Kakadu describes an interior floating floor. Review subfloor condition, moisture checks, perimeter movement space and fixed cabinetry with the installer before work begins. The attached-pad construction should not receive additional sound-suppression padding. A click-lock system still requires preparation; an existing floor should be assessed against the guide rather than assumed suitable because it looks flat.

For routine care, the linked guide recommends removing grit by sweeping or vacuuming without a beater bar, then using a damp mop and pH-neutral floor cleaner as needed. It excludes steam cleaning, vinegar, wax and abrasive pads. Keep this care guidance with your purchase record, and check a proposed cleaner against it before applying that cleaner across the room.

Product FAQs

Product and compatibility questions

Does waterproof Canyon Kakadu eliminate subfloor moisture work?

No. The manufacturer's linked guide distinguishes the flooring's resistance to water from protection of the building underneath. It says moisture issues must be addressed before installation and liquids removed promptly. Discuss the room and its moisture conditions before choosing the floor assembly. A waterproof plank description alone does not establish that a basement slab, leak-prone area or exterior space is suitable.

For a planned room change, describe the intended use and existing subfloor to your installer so the preparation is assessed for that location.

Ordering and maintenance questions

Which thickness should I compare when shopping for this floor?

Use 8mm when comparing the complete plank build and 22 mil when comparing the stated wear layer. Canyon Kakadu lists a 6.5mm core plus a 1.5mm attached IXPE pad. These figures describe different parts of one product. For an installation estimate, compare total height, preparation and transition needs together.

For an appearance decision, inspect the sample's texture and edges separately; a thickness number cannot tell you how the finished floor will coordinate with your room.
